Please read all of the relevant appliance catalogues that come with your caravan. It is important that as the owner of the caravan that you familiarise yourself with all of the moving parts and appliances and how they operate. Below are some helpful hints and advice on aspects of your caravan to use as a guide.

  1. External speakers are switched on using the black switch near the door, then use Fade on the Stereo. If Fade is set to the centre you can turn the external speakers on by just turning on the black switch. Or use Fade to adjust from inside only to outside only.

  2. External TV connection cables are not supplied by the manufacturer, they can be purchased at any Jaycar store. Or disconnect and use the inside cables outside.

  3.  Often the front and rear lights are switched to the inside of the tunnel boot on the door side. Sometimes it will just be the front work lights.

  4. If Bug Lights were not optioned at build then they will not be on the van. If they are they will be switched with all the other switches.

  5. Diesel heaters must be started on 24deg or above for a solid 5 minutes to allow the unit to get hot and work correctly. It has to be set well above ambient temperature to get started correctly, then you can turn it down to a more comfortable level, but no lower than 18deg.

  6. 12v Water Pump, there is a switch to turn it on, depending on your electrical system, it may be on a monitor screen or a physical switch. The water pump is required to be switched on to use the water when ever you not plugged into mains water. When plugged into mains water, make sure pump switch is off or it will continue to work and use tank water when required.

  7. Washing machine is best run from mains water only, it will drain your tank water very quickly otherwise, it will have an isolating tap within the cupboard near the machine.

  8. Fridge running temp is usually 3, they shouldn't be required to be any higher then that unless in extreme heat up north. 3 way fridges don't actually cool the fridge on 12v, 12v is to maintain the current temperature while travelling until you arrive at your destination and switch the fridge back to 240v or gas. 3 way fridges operate by removing heat from the fridge, they are an absorption fridge, therefore they will have different temps in different parts of the fridge, so don't over fill a 3 way fridge, they will need to be able to draw air around the fridge to cool correctly.

  9. If you are plugged into 240v power and there is no power in your caravan. Check that the extension lead is correctly plugged in at either end, check that the power supply circuit breaker is on, check the caravan circuit breaker has not tripped. If all of these are fine, change the extension lead, if that doesn't work, plug an appliance into the 240v supply power point to check it has power. If that works, then the issue is more likely a burnt out circuit breaker in the caravan, call an electrician to check it.

  10. 12v power supply will be turned on by either a manual switch near the door, or by a button on the monitor of the electrical system installed. When storing your caravan make sure you have the 12v isolated so that your battery doesn't go flat.

  11. Toilet & cassette. The toilet requires 12v power to operate the flush mode. When using the toilet always open the flap first, close when finished and flushed. When cassette is nearing full an amber light will come on warning you. If a red light comes on it is full don’t keep using it. When ready to empty the toilet cassette make sure that the toilet flap at the front of the toilet is fully closed. If you attempt to remove the cassette with the flap open you will break a part in the system. When pushing the cassette back into place use a good amount of force to make sure it locks in place correctly. When emptying the cassette always put the cap on the ground, not up on something where it can be knocked off, if you put it up and it gets knocked it will often find its way into the dump point hole, that is never a good ending.

  12. Operating your tv. Almost everytime you move your van, you will need to reprogram your tv to receive channels. Make sure your tv is set on DVB not ATV, DVB is digital, this usually found in Input. Depending on your antenna, you may have to wind it up, you may have to point it in the correct direction ( There are phone apps ) you must make sure the booster button on the tv wall plate is on. Tune your tv to receive channels. The amount of channels you find will depend on where you are, how close to a town, whether your high, low, a tree is in the way. Caravan antennas are not as good as being at home, you will need to lower your expectations. If the DVD player is in the tv, you will need to go to input and change the tv to DVD

  13. Town water. Every towns water will be different, we highly recommend using some sort of inline water filter at all times. This will help save your caravans pressure reducing valve from being clogged and not working correctly, it will also provide you with the best water possible for where you are.

  14. Pressure reducing valve. These are usually brass, they are able to be removed, pulled apart and cleaned/lubed and refitted. If your mains water pressure where you are is always good, but the pressure in the van significantly drops away, it will usually be this valve. Clean it, if that doesn’t work, replace it.

  15. Gas Appliances. All of your gas appliances, stove, fridge, hw service, gas bayonet all have a gas isolating tap. If the tap isn’t on your appliance wont work. Always turn off gas bottles before travelling so supply is cut. Once you have arrived at your destination and turn on the gas at the bottles, it will take some time for the gas to push through, it sometimes helps to ignite the stove to get the gas flowing. If at any time you feel there is an issue with your gas appliances please isolate the appliance and contact your dealer or a qualified gas appliance repairer.

  16. Moving parts. We highly recommend that you carry a can of INOX spray with you while caravaning. This spray is excellent for lubricating all locks, drop down leg parts, hitch parts and any other moving parts in or out of your caravan. As the owner you are required to do some responsible maintenance of your asset.

  17. Doors and latches, please make sure before moving your caravan that all doors, windows, hatches and latches are closed and locked where required. If any of these are left open, you will find them broken at the other end of your journey. If operating on rough surfaces check all screws daily for any coming loose and retighten as required.

  18. AC power Inverters. These units draw massive amounts of power from a DC battery system. If you have one in your caravan, make sure it is switched off when not in use. If it is left on it will drain your battery/batteries flat.

  19. Drop Down legs. Each van comes with a drop down leg winder handle. This is used to wind down the legs when they have been locked into position to stabilise and support the caravan while stationary. You are given a winder handle because this is the correct devise to operate the legs with. However a lot of owners choose to operate the legs using a drill connection. A cordless clutched drill is ok, any type of rattle gun is not. Rattle Guns don’t stop applying constant pressure and damage the cast cogs inside the leg. If this happens we know why and they wont be covered by warranty. Always remember to wind up and lock the legs in the up position before departure. Regular lubricating of the legs is a good idea, refer to section 16.

  20. 240v Power. 240v operating appliances will only work on 240v if you are at home or in a park where 240v power can be plugged into the caravan, If you are free camping the 240v appliances will not work.

  21. Roll Out Awning. Awning damage is approximately 80% of all caravan insurance claims. The strongest way to have your awning out is to keep the arms attached to the caravan and apply at least 1 guy rope each end at a 30% angle at best, this maintains 3 points of contact to the ground. As soon as you disconnect a leg from the caravan and peg it straight up and down to the ground it becomes vulnerable to wind and damage. We also highly recommend the use of Aussie Traveller Anti Flap kits and Curved Roof Rafters to help add strength to the open awning setup.

  22. Rough Terrain. When operating your caravan on rough terrain please make sure your van tyre pressures are lowered to the appropriate psi for the terrain you are travelling through. Tyre pressures are very important in this scenario and the tyres fitted to your caravan can be run at low pressures for this purpose.

  23. Water Tank Filling. Your van will either have 2x keyed tank fillers on the roadside, you open them and push the end of your blue water hose down into the filler and gently turn on the tap. We use the blue water hose because your garden hose may taint the water. Also it is preferred to still have your inline filter attached to the blue hose when filling your tanks. Once the tank is full it will overflow, put hose into other filler and continue to fill 2nd tank. New caravans from June 2024 will mostly have auto filling tank taps. You connect your hose to the mains connection as per usual and you will find 2 taps on the chassis to the left, you open 1 tap to fill that tank, once full close the tap and open the other tap and fill the 2nd tank. Be sure that once full both taps are closed.
